East Asian Nutritional Counseling
Are you interested in using food and dietary changes to treat your health concerns?
The Free Range Health teleHerb® service allows you to experience the amazing health benefits of East Asian nutrition approaches without having to travel outside your home. Simply speak to one of our highly trained specialists, and you will be on the road to recovery with an East Asian nutrition plan made just for you!
East Asian nutritional counseling begins with evaluating the foods you are eating now to determine how they might be impacting your medical condition. Once that is accomplished, the next step is to make recommendations for foods that can be added to your diet to enhance the healing process. Depending on your personal resources and ability, a customized meal plan can be created designed to address your specific health concerns.
East Asian nutritional counseling focuses on identifying and eating the correct foods for your specific illness or condition. As you begin to incorporate these foods into your meals, you will begin to see improvements in your health.

WHAT IS EAST ASIAN NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING?
Food is medicine. Ancient healers observed how the foods we eat and drink play an important role in our overall health and wellbeing. They created a system of classifying foods by how they affect the body. When a proper East Asian medicine diagnosis has been made, specific foods can be chosen that will address that imbalance.
WHAT IS THE TRAINING OF AN EAST ASIAN NUTRITION SPECIALIST?
The knowledge of how to use food to heal the body has been passed down from generation to generation over thousands of years. Today, East Asian medicine practitioners go to school and study for many years to learn this ancient art. Free Range Health teleNutrition™ specialists have all completed advanced degrees in East Asian medicine, which includes training in East Asian nutrition. In addition, our teleNutrition™ specialists are all certified Diplomates of Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NUTRITIONISTS OR DIETITIANS?
Western biomedical nutritionists and dietitians are concerned with the science, the nutrients, and the ingredients of the foods we eat as well as the metabolic and physiological responses of the body to foods and nutrients. East Asian nutritional counseling focuses on improving health by utilizing food to bring the energy of the body into balance. These principles and theories have been passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.
IS ONE BETTER THAN THE OTHER?
Absolutely not. Both approaches to your diet and nutrition are essential for a healthy life. Integration of the Western and Eastern models of food and nutrition is a powerful way to improve your health and wellbeing.
I'M ALREADY SEEING A DIETITIAN. CAN I STILL SEE YOU?
Of course. East Asian nutritional suggestions can be applied to your existing dietary guidelines. For example, if your dietary plan calls for a certain amount of protein each day, we may recommend which type of protein is best according to your East Asian diagnosis. We’re even happy to speak with your dietitian to help make the best plan for you.
WHAT WILL I BE EATING?
That’s hard to say without learning more about your individual health condition first. In general, the foods we recommend will be items readily available at your local grocery store. In some cases we may suggest a food that will be found at an Asian market. The foods we recommend may sometimes seem different or unusual for people raised on the standard American diet, but if you give them a try, you’ll begin to feel better.
WILL I BE TRACKING CALORIES?
The principle of tracking calories and measuring portions is not a prime focus of East Asian nutrition. If you are eating the right foods for your condition, East Asian principles say your body will naturally settle into its ideal state. If you are currently on a specific diet that has restricted calories or other specific requirements, we will gladly work with you to integrate both plans.
ARE THERE RECIPES FOR THE FOODS YOU RECOMMEND?
Yes. When we create the broad recommendation and individualized meal plan, we will include recipes for you to use. Our hope is that as you become more familiar with the ingredients you will begin to experiment on your own.
